The Door is really one of those films that comes together at the end. For most of the film, I wasn’t sure of how I felt about it, but as it progressed and the plot unfolded, I started liking it more, and I think that makes a film successful. The acting wasn’t the BEST, but it was passable for sure. There were also some plot holes that made me wonder why certain things were happening (for example, if it was supposed to be 5 years exactly — which it was — why was it winter on the other side of the door when the entire family tried going through?). Aside from a few quirks like that, the film was solid and a great German mystery flick. The film didn’t get a wide release, and I only happened across it randomly, which I am glad I did – it was a lot better than some other time passage films (i.e. Butterfly Effect). It does show the film as “save” on Netflix, so it seemingly is on it’s way (after 2 years!). What I found most intriguing about the film is the last half hour, how everything just sort of comes at you like an open flood gate – which in turn makes the start of the film a bit slow, but overall the pacing was good and the plot was really worth what the film uncovers.
