Review

I have seen some other reviews and heard some friends say that they did not like the Dictator, and I am not quite sure why. I think that the characters that Sacha Baren Cohen portrays are hilarious. The Dictator, I thought, was an interesting political statement about government officials, some of them stateside. The film plays out like one of his typical films – an over-exaggerated characters that lacks the mental capacity to understand themselves. The other piece of the film, which I equally enjoyed, was Anna Farris! I am a long time fan of Anna, I just think she plays the best “stupid” roles out there. Mashing these two together made for quite an entertaining film. The film is about a dictator who loses his power once he comes to America and his body double replaces him. He ends up working at a local food market with Anna Farris and whilst his violent and terrorist ways are still a part of him, he tries to impress the young feminist. I like the films that Cohen does because they always play on a stereotype in order to expose the ridiculousness of that stereotype. I think the situations surrounding The Dictator are witty and funny. If you enjoyed Borat and Bruno, odds are you will like this as well.
