The funny thing about my experience with the Immortals is that throughout the film I kept saying, “This is like The Fall meets The Cell meets 300.” Well 2/3 of those films were Tarsem films, and I forgot that he made both of them and said “This is very Tarsem”. Good thing I enjoy his films! Immortals, above all else, is beautiful. I am not one to give praise or extra citing to the aesthetic of a film, but truly the visuals of Immortals was stunning. The effects, the choreography, and anything that had to do with sense of sight. This does not mean the film was not a good film. In a lot of ways, it is a film that has been done before. It is a classic hero story (not much outside the vein of 300 or Spartacus), but it takes a solid prototype and follows through in a non-disappointing way. Even a few weeks after watching the film, I constantly reflect back on how much I enjoyed it. I think this is partially because I read some very bad reviews for it, and the first time I saw the preview (sometime last year), I thought “300 rip off”. I would almost go as far to say that visually, Immortals is a better film than 300. As I said before, the plot doesn’t bring a lot of new content to the classic Greek storyline, but plays with it a bit. The story of the immortals brings an antagonist to release the immortals who were fallen Gods, now scathing and demented onto the world for the death of his wife (trying to get revenge on the Gods). Theseus must try and stop this world-changing event from taking place. The acting, for such a film, was honestly decent. Henry Cavil has been a favorite since The Tudors and who doesn’t love Stephen Dorff! If you enjoy the action/myth genre, this is byfar one of the best films to come out in years (if you hated Clash of the Titans, don’t let that bad taste stay in your mouth)
