Final Destination 5 (2011)
I know what you are thinking (especially if you saw “The Final Destination”) ; “i’m not reading this shitty review, he gave it a 7.0, and it’s a final destination movie”, to that I say : if you feel that way AND hated the first two films, maybe it’s time to just dismiss me now, but if you loved the first two, thought 3 was “MEH” and hated the 4th, then continue reading! Now, these films are in no may movie magic or great cinema, but they are fun. In the way that the Saw films were fun (although I would argue there was more depth to those films, well, most of them at least). FD5 brings me back to what I loved about the series, a contention of how someone is going to die! Now, FD4 had that, with OVERLY crappy acting and basically they said “It’s in 3D, no one will notice if there isn’t an actual script” (no lie!). Anyways, back to FD5. The film had all the nuances of the first two films without being overly corny. Parts did play out like an after school special (for dying?), but once the film got going, it was worth watching. Now, this film probably would have gotten a bit lower from me, but the ending was what we call an “out of nowhere twist”. I guess that is the definition of a twist (just to be redundant), but some movies you KNOW there is going to be a twist (you just aren’t sure what it is), and this one came out of nowhere, surprising, and pretty friggin’ awesome! I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but this film was very much an homage to the series and throughout the film, references itself (which I appreciated). Overall, i’d say if you were disenchanted by FD4, give it another go like I did, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
