Mystery Team (2009)
I watched Mystery Team on a total whim. I normally don’t just browse Netflix and randomly watch a movie alone, but this filmed seemed funny so I popped on the trailer, and the second I saw Aubrey Plaza, I paused it, and began the film. I will say that the film gets points just for Aubrey because I find her style of humor to be filled with sarcasm and amazement! The acting was all around very good, Donald Glover performed well as well as his entourage. The film felt a bit odd in places, as the regresive teenage boys becoming men were trapped in their 8 year old selves, solving mysteries of stolen lunch money and missing dogs. When a real case (MURDER!) is presented, they get more than they bargained for, but this creates a variety of hilarious situations for the group to follow through on. Because of this dynamic the film felt almost like an tug-of-war between Scooby Doo (for kids) and a raunchy version Sherlock Holmes (for adults). Although this is an odd formula, it worked very well. I though the film was both cute (yet adult), and had an abundance of character. There were times (again, because of the personalities and mental places of the characters) that the film felt uncomfortable (hanging out with children, children in strip clubs, etc.) , which was difficult to resolve, but did not completely sidetrack the film. I’d say if you like a light to medium level of comedy that throws a few sideballs that Mystery Team is for you, a fun and enjoyable film about growing up (as a child and as a teenager).
WARNING : a lot of the jokes are in the trailer (just watched the whole thing through), so i’d watch maybe 30 seconds if you are still unsure, and if it seems up your alley, just watch it! (it’s worth it!)

The movie would have been a LOT different if it were Danny Glover playing that character haha.
