Dog Pound was a truly great film, and giving it a 7.5 is really painful for me, but there were parts of the film that they just did not film, and they left a lot of questions unanswered. The film centers around 3 delinquent boys in a detention center , all with varying problems. Once inside, the other teens make it difficult to assimilate to a better and clean life. There are several conflicts with other groups in the facility, and some of these are never followed-up with. For example, there is a very intense fight in one portion of the film, and we never find out what happens to the victim (and it felt important to know). I couldn’t tell if they were trying to make the film shorter or not – but I wish the film was longer and they resolved these issues. Aside from this (which was a pretty significant filmmaking decision), the film was very visceral and raw. I have to admit, I love prison-style films. I think because the concept of prison makes me feel very uncomfortable, the fighting, the people, the whole scenario, but seeing good people trying to survive in prison (or being forced to harden who they are) is a very interesting concept. I would suggest seeing Celda 211 as well if you enjoy this film (or see that film first, as it is the best prison movie I have ever seen). The acting in the film was near flawless, which made the situations even more raw. I would say that you have to be into this type of film to enjoy it, but I personally love films where people are thrusted into new environments and have to adapt.
