Tormented (2009)
Tormented was a fun flick that had some laughs, which without these elements probably would have failed completely. A British prep-school backdrops the sex, drugs, and carefree attitudes of a group of teens haunted by a classmate they pretty much kill. The tagline for the movie is “a film for the Skins generation”, which makes a lot of sense because 2 of the actresses from the first two series of Skins is in the film (I assume some of the same crew as well). The film doesn’t hold a lot of content, and definitely doesn’t bring anything new to the slasher genre, but the fast-paced killing of the film gives it some points. Tormented, like I said before, works because of it’s comedic elements as well – posing on the archetypes and cliques of typical high school students, the film is able to deliver some laughs (i.e. the “emo/goths” in the school are always trying to be sad) – so a satirical element is at play, which I found to be refreshing. The film is very much like a more adult “Pretty Little Liars”. Overall, the film is worth a watch, but will probably be soon forgotten afterwards.
