The original Wrong Turn was one of my favorite films in high school. It was of a genre almost long lost, when mid-level horror was seemingly taken seriously. The series has never been phenomenal in the sense of great filmmaking, but there is a level of fun to be had watching people running from crazy mountain men in the forest. With that said, Wrong Turn 3 almost has no redeeming qualities. The film is so bad it is almost funny, almost. There are parts that had me laughing hysterically (the CGI for instance was literally some of the worst I have ever seen, and this includes 90’s CGI). A bunch of convicts and a few cops are trying to get back to civilization through the forest of the mutated – there is lots of cocky prison attitudes and a dynamic of “who is worse” (the mountain people or the convicts) – in the end no one really cares because the characters are flat and could easily be replaced with cardboard cutouts. Overall, if you are a dihard WT fan, see it, for sure (just for shits and giggles), otherwise you can skip this one.
