Your Highness (2011)
I am going to be rather easy on Your Highness because comedies that are decent seemingly are rare sight to see. Your Highness was by no means an epic comedy, but it provided what a comedy should, a generous amount of laughs as well as a general ability to entertain. Given that it was a standard stoner comedy, wrapped in a medeval theme, it worked out pretty well. I may be semi-biased because I love medeval themed films (there were so many more of them in the 80’s, where did they all go!). Although Danny McBride was overwhelmingly my least favorite part of the film, and being the person featured the most, I was still able to enjoy it based on James Franco and Natalie Portman’s characters. The situations were silly in nature, which formulated a movie that didn’t take itself too seriously (if it did, it may have failed), the dialogue relied a little to heavily on the word “fuck”, which I can understand because it isn’t often that you hear “fuck” in medeval times, but they went a bit overboard, which annoyed me. Parts of the film reminded me of Hercules from the Kevin Sorbo days, which was a nice nod (the arena fight was very much reminiscent of that aesthetic). It is difficult to give comedies a very high rating given (for me) their un-rewatchability. I don’t think I would ever watch this film again, despite the fact that it was moderately funny and was thematically interesting. Overall, I would suggest watching it, there are several parts of the film (when they go to see the guru-character, and Steve) that make the film worth seeing.
