Summary
Genre: Action, HorrorGoodies:
+ Follows up the series for fans and redeems itself from it's predecessor. + Adds in some back story and loreBaddies:
- Does not do much to innovate the seriesWhen human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.
I have been a longtime fan of the Underworld series. Celine is one of those females heroines that that kick ass and take names. Ironically, I am not a huge fan of vampire and werewolf type movies. The first Underworld brought upon a world of awesomeness, whips, swords, guns, and blue filter. Evolution went a bit downhill, but was at least a bit fun. Rise of the Lycans took out Celine (and replaced her with a very similar character), and gave a bit of the back lore. Awakening was probably my second favorite in the series It does not bring a lot more to the table, but throws in aspects of timeline (between when Celine was put to rest and when she wakes up). Action films are not my favorite genre, but the addition of technology ignites some fun into the genre. Celine has to come to terms with the fact she is a mother and and needs to help save the vampire and human populations. Not a lot more to go over, there are swords, leather, and more blue filter – if you are a fan of the series, Awakening is a nice throwback to the early days of the series.
