The Troll Hunter is what happens when a big monster movie goes completely in the RIGHT direction. The film is fantastic on many levels and for many different reasons. First of all, there are a barage of the fake-docu-monster movies (and monster movies in general), and TTH pushes beyond any of these. First of all, it stays away from being completely cheesy like some films in this genre like to do, and secondly it balances between a world of comedy, horror, and suspense. I think this is what really gives it the unique feel of reality because the characters go from being scared to completely amazed, from almost dead to inquiring. The film had action, comedy, and kept me very entertained. I was always wondering what was going to happen next, what types of trolls they would run into, and how it would end. Any film like this is a hard one to land at the end, but I think it does the typical “they were never found, this is what we found”, which in some ways is a cop-out, but in other ways more “realistic” in the sense that if these people were still alive, then we would know more. This film is better than Cloverfield, Monsters, The Host, and most films of similar nature, so if that is a genre you like (or even the semi-horror genre) i’d suggest this film for viewing!
The trailer is below, but I think this is a film that is better knowing less and seeing less of the scenes.
