Swordfish was a movie that I had wanted to see a bunch of times when I was younger, but never got around to it (always seemed like there was something else to watch) – and to be honest, I can say that I didn’t miss too much. It plays out like a typical 90’s action government or court film, which felt all a little too cliche. The “twists” were not overly ‘twisty’ and the technological referencing was just hilarious. If you are going to do a movie that involves heavy technology – don’t insult your viewers. Even if I had seen this in 2001, I know that you don’t hack systems of government visually – these things are done solely in a terminal (not in cubes). Despite that, the film wasn’t terrible by any means, I just never fully invested myself into the characters or the story (besides maybe the father/daughter aspect). Maybe I would have liked it more had I seen it 10 years ago, but it just didn’t do a whole lot for me. I did really like the intro of the film, and there were parts that I enjoyed, but overall it was just kind of average.
