Review

I wasn’t expecting too much out of Kill Theory as one of the After Dark Horrorfest’s annual slumps on the screen, but the description did get me a tad excited. I was also impressed with the quality of the film (sometimes these things look like they were filmed with a handicam). The film did have potential, but even in the first scene when I saw the guy driving in the old beat up van with a video camera in his hand, I knew it was going to be ‘formulatic poop’. About halfway through, I thought that the way the plot was posited would help strain out some of that formula, but it did not, and even though it had its moments, ultimately it felt into the ‘same-ole, same-ole’ category. I did enjoy the ending (which helped the rating) and like I said before, it had a lot of potential, and I wish it had gone somewhere with it. Ultimately, I wouldn’t say Kill Theory is worth your time – I really wish a film with a similar plot (there have been other ‘teens stuck in the middle of nowhere and have to make very hard social decisions / moral dilemma), but they always fall a little short, and even though Kill Theory wasn’t the worst by any means, it also didn’t bring anything good to the table.
