Review

Jack Brooks has all the right intentions, but delivers in a way that is impressive on few parts of the film. The nod to over the top monster / horror films from the 80’s and early 90’s is nothing short of fantastic, but, in action, seems conceptually better than the actual film was. The one thing that made the film worth watch was the monster at the end of the film. Not having CG infect the film at every corner really made it a fun movie, visually. Otherwise, there wasn’t much redeeming about the film – it was almost boring. Had the first 50 minutes of the film been like the latter 25, the film would have been awesome, but you can’t produce a bore-fest then made an awesome short film and get very far. This should have been an action film and they tried too much to put backstory and intention into a genre of film that thrives over meaningless violence, monsters, and corny one-liners. The highs were high, but the lows were zzzzzzzZzzzZzZzz.
