I wanted to like this film, a lot. It seemingly was bringing back a classic formula in a new way (from the trailer, at least). I was expecting The Last House on the Left (remake) caliber of remakes, but really all it ended up as was a very predictable mess. There was nothing specifically BAD about the film expect it’s unrelenting ability to be cliche. I knew the movie was over when she ran into the forest, found the sheriff, and he brought her back to the cabin – the corrupt sheriff has been used since the 70’s, and maybe they were just trying to pay homage, but when a film is 100% predictable, it makes it lose the fun factor for viewers. Also, I was waiting for about an entire half hour for her to come back to seek her revenge, and the middle of the film was very slowly paced, almost at a standstill (like they couldn’t actually fill the entire time for the movie). Like I said, the film wasn’t terrible, it was just horribly predictable and didn’t bring anything new to the plate. I will say that HOW she gets revenge is interesting, but this part of the film lasts about 20 minutes before the film ends. They had a lot of potential to work with for this genre film, I just wish they had done a bit more with it. The writing was pretty good for this type of film as well, but this doesn’t even rate near remakes like Last House (I suggest watching that film instead). When all was said and done, I was bored with the film.
