I Am Number Four (2011)
Going into the film, I wasn’t expecting very much – it looked like an average teen/action film. I was semi-excited because it seemed like it could be a fresh take on the superhero franchise. I am not a huge fan of the SH genre, in general, because they are formulaic (to an insulting level), unfocused, vapid, and most of all, the action isn’t all that great. That was the thing that made I Am Number Four alright – when there was action, it was pretty good. The effects were interesting, but it suffered in so many other ways. The acting was terrible, and the situations/plot of romance were less feasible than the alien plots/situations. Those who know me, know that the reason I hate action films is because they don’t try to inject plot into the film; but if you don’t inject GOOD plot, that’s no better. I don’t mind action as a genre as long as there is something supporting that action that carries and gives reason to it’s being. This film did attempt that, but I felt sidetracked by how mundane the plots actually were.
